What is it about?

This review of the book Marine Scientific Research (MSR), New Marine Technologies and the Law of the Sea (LOSC) edited by Keyuan Zou and Anastasia Telesetsky, describes the legal challenges faced by States in the conduct of MSR. Such challenges include sovereign rights over the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs), overlapping claims in disputed maritime areas, and coastal state rights to exercise total sovereignty over MSR in the territorial sea. The editors in the first (introductory) chapter stated that all states understand MSR as part of LOSC as a public good regulated to ensure equitable exploitation of ocean resources.
