What is it about?
This article documents the development of State practice over the past decade regarding the impact of sea level rise on the lawfully determined limits of maritime zones and the existing maritime boundaries. It explores the implications of the emerging State practice for the understanding and interpretation of the rules and principles of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. It concludes that the findings of international law scholarship have played an important role in influencing recent State practice, and that this interaction has contributed to facilitating legal certainty and stability in the development of adequate responses to an increasingly pressing international law issue.
