What is it about?
Previous studies have not accounted for John 8:12's specific location in the Gospel of John. This article builds on suggestions that John 8:12 alludes to Isaiah 8:23-9:6. By means of this allusion, John 8:12 answers the objection in 7:52 that no prophet arises from Galilee, undermines Jesus' opponents for not knowing the scriptures, and presents Jesus as the Messiah in accordance with the purpose of the book.
