What is it about?
We looked at all the studies that examined if involving animals in therapy helps. We found 28 studies that investigated if having animals actively involved in therapy helps. We found that animals do help, but that the quality of studies that have looked at this issue are not very good. This means that although involving animals in therapy likely helps people, we need more research to be sure. Specifically, we found that studies help with trauma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, reading disabilities, and anxiety.
