Why is it important?
The work provides a methodological discussion and an empirical experiment that aims to put the theories to test. While much work has been dedicated to the language of Achilles alone, this work attempts to perform a general analysis.
Perspectives
The work is part of a collective work by the DICES Network on direct speeches in ancient epic poetry. For me, being part of this collective enterprise has been a really unique experience! I am grateful to the coordinators for the wonderful discussions and sessions of collective work that we enjoyed, especially during the network meetings. Also, the project was the most successful example of cooperation between so-called "digital" and "traditional" scholarship in Classics.
