What is it about?
Two factors were highlighted as the future development trajectories for post-soviet higher education. They are student-centeredness and service to society. These, however, seem to have some serious obstacles to be realized because of the long rooted background of Soviet ideologies.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that these two factors are important for the development of the higher education systems but are at the same time quite uneasy to overcome.
Perspectives
This article has been written by the authors who have first-hand experience of the post-Soviet higher education system. They both have either lived through or researched the two factors, and the dataset of the article accurately captured the lived experiences.
