What is it about?

Herein I address the relationship between Freud's conception of the family as the locus of desire formation and how that translates into social violence. Building on Freud's work I explain how simple transformations of Freud's ideas are utilized by Rene Girard to develop a more cohesive and consistent portrayal of desire as the force behind social violence and how it can be addressed.

Why is it important?

Understanding how social violence develops helps us better imagine new ways to address the issues that originate in the formation of desire as Freud and Girard have explained the issue.

Perspectives

Few problems in society have been as difficult to address as the reason behind violent behaviors. I think this work, and others like it (I have a book on the subject as well), will eventually provide a social blueprint for undermining violent behaviors.
