What is it about?
Andalusi Romance ("Mozarabic") was the autochtonous Romance language of the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula in the late Early Middle Ages and the High Middle Ages. It was still spoken in the Muslim dominated parts of the Iberian Peninsula and disappeared in the course of the Christian reconquest of al-Andalus. As far as has been known up to now, Andalusi Romance is almost exclusively transmitted in Arabic characters, with the exception of kharja poetry, which was also written in Hebrew characters. This article unveils the presence of Andalusi Romance plant names in Hebrew characters that were transmitted in Jewish glossaries and synonym list as part of the explanation of Arabic medico-botanical terminology.
