What is it about?
The legal recognition and protection of immaterial personality rights (eg reputation, privacy and dignity) has historically been ad hoc and uneven across different legal systems, but the trend has undoubtedly been towards greater recognition and protection. Book 4 of the Chinese Civil Code attempts to provide the first sustained, comprehensive and systematic set of legal principles on the topic. This chapter highlights key features and analyses them in comparison with the law in other countries.
