What is it about?

The Yellow Vests movement in France, and the Gezi movement in Turkey took the shape of violently-repressed anti-government revolts from the 2010s. They are however widely different: in France, the unrest started as a reaction to an unfair fiscal measure initially meant to tackle climate change while in Turkey it was a reaction to wide-spread environmental destruction resulting from governmental policies.

Why is it important?

It shows how challenging it is to negotiate between environmental and social policies in order to implement a just transition that is socially acceptable while allowing humanity to keep living comfortably on this planet for the foreseeable future.
