What is it about?

Three fragmentary Greek texts, written on papyrus and glued together to form a roll. They are official documents, probably sent to the keepers of the Property Register of the city of Oxyrhynchus (Egypt), and date from around 231 CE. The edition includes the Greek transcription, an English translation and commentary.

Why is it important?

Not only do these texts provide a terminus post quem for the important text written afterwards on the back (A concordance to the Sortes Astrampsychi), but they also are interesting on its own, providing bits of new information on administrative and legal procedures in Roman Egypt.

Perspectives

New papyri, even when fragmentary, may give us new insights in different aspects of ancient society.
