What is it about?
This article looks at the end of Philippians 3 and the notion that Paul introduces only there concerning 'citizenship in heaven'. I compare Philippians 3 to a piece on consolation by the Roman Stoic philosopher, Seneca the Younger, which is addressed to his mother, Helvia, from exile. I show that there are affinities between the two texts and that the end of Philippians 3 can also be read as consolation, albeit in a different context.
