What is it about?

This is a case report of a child with advanced Wilms tumour with lung metastases that were successfully treated with repeated resections and finally ablation of a lung metastases followed by stem cells transplantation resulting in an abscopal effect on addiational small lung metastases.

Why is it important?

This is a first report of microwave ablation of lung metastases in a child using jet flow ventilation and a stereotactic system for CT guided targeting.

Perspectives

A new field of immun activating drugs for treating advanced cancers is opening up and this case report is supportive of the concept of immune system activation with a local ablative procedure followed by immune response stimulation
