What is it about?

Iron deficiency is a common condition that is treated with infusions when patients cannot have tablets. Previously infusion would go over 4-5 hours or need multiple injections of newer products at high cost. We showed that iron polymaltose can be used over a short period of 15 minutes to replace iron for most people at low cost with the similar side effects to slower infusions.

Why is it important?

This is import as this study shows that correcting iron deficiency is more economical and convenient, and safe for people with iron deficiency as with newer products when using iron polymaltose.

Perspectives

Many products have been developed for treatment of this common condition (iron deficiency), with last 10-15 years of research showing that some older products can be given faster, with more convenient complete iron replenishment compared with partial and more expensive newer products, that do not offer better safety.
