LBP: Disease vs Episodes - Risk factors vs Triggers

Featured Image

Why is it important?

Today, a shift from treatment to prevention on LBP research seems inevitable since no treatment has been found to be significantly superior or even better than placebo. However, causes for the disease of LBP might be different from those which trigger an acute ensuing episode. Therefore, a correct and clear definition of a "disease-free" and an "episode-free" when investigating causes of pain is crucial.

Perspectives

Without differentiating between the disease and episodes, a potential waste of a considerable amount of time, effort, and money — for both researchers and participants— is expected without contributing meaningfully to back pain science.
