What is it about?

This is a case report of a bodybuilder who injected illicit testosterone and developed catastrophic, life and limb-threatening clotting within veins and arteries

Why is it important?

This is an under-reported phenomenon, possibly related to an undisclosed contaminant that may be within “street” testosterone, that presumably is used most frequently in body builders.

Perspectives

This is an important prospective on thrombosis given that in my experience, I have not encountered such catastrophic arterial and venous clotting outside of episodes of catastrophic anti phospholipid antibody syndrome or heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with thrombosis.
