What is it about?
Intensive care unit patients with infective endocarditis had the highest heparin-binding protein (HBP) serum levels, whereas the patients with bacterial meningitis had the lowest serum levels of cortisol. In addition, elevated serum levels of cortisol and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 correlated positively with the severe course of sepsis.
