This investigation described in detail all topographical changes during the deposition of three layers of organic coatings on steel substrate.

Why is it important?
The characterization includes the use of cratering ball testing for determining the thickness of coatings. The usual is to assess thickness of thin and hard coating, but in this case some layers are thick and soft, but some of final results were fully of confidence.
Perspectives
The characterization could be applied for other organic coatings, including bio-polymers.
