What is it about?
Influenza A H1N1/09 pandemic, with its origin in Mexico, is the first human flu in 40 years to have caused such transmissibility and infectivity on a global scale. However, the mortality rates were merely marginal compared to those of previous global outbreaks, suggesting that susceptibility genes are involved.

Why is it important?
No other studies were made in the Mexican population evaluating HLA genes. Our results identify by first time class I alleles associated with susceptibility to 2009 pandemic influenza A H1N1.
