The importance of walking with pedometers as an effective tool in improving metabolic syndrome components and adiponectin levels among young adult females in the United Arab Emirates is highlighted. This study was able to establish significant changes in the metabolic health parameters of the participants post the intervention period of 9 weeks. The findings of this study bear much relevance to the public, despite not reaching the recommended number of 10,000 footsteps per day, tangible improvements in the body composition, triglyceride, adiponectin and insulin were evident. Further, the benefits accrued in high BMI participants were much more than those with normal BMI.
