What is it about?

The study evaluates the accuracy of the insertion of 65 dental implants in 25 consecutive partially edentulous patients using a surgical template with drill sleeves incorporated. For this purpose, the digital file of the treatment plan was compared to the digital impression, after implants insertion.

Why is it important?

For accuracy assessment, postoperative Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) was not necessary, being in compliance with the ALARA principles.

Perspectives

The evaluated surgical template with sleeve incoroprated, used in our study has proved high accuracy for dental implants insertion. By comparing the treatment plan digital file with postinsertion digital impression, without requiring postoperative CBCT for assessing implant placement accuracy, a further radiation exposure may be avoided.
