What is it about?

It's about selection of appropriate (i.e. measurement range, no. of sensitive axes) commercial MEMS accelerometer for tilt measurements, while aiming at possibly high accuracy of the measurements or simplicity of the related computations.

Why is it important?

Selection of the basic parameters of an accelerometer, as well as its initial orientation, results in accuracy of tilt measurements, their range and complication of the related computations. Reasonable selection of appropriate accelerometer leads to reduction of costs of the considered measurement or achieving high accuracy despite using low-cost sensors.

Perspectives

I hope this article will help many engineeres and researchers to select appropriate sensor and its initial spatial orientation, and in this way considerably improve accuracy of tilt measurements.
