What is it about?
A growing body of literature has shown that survivors of critical illness often struggle with cognitive impairment that persists months to years after hospital discharge, a problem we refer to as critical illness brain injury. In this review, we discuss the history and maturation of the research examining critical illness brain injury, review its characteristics of critical illness brain injury, and examine its risk factors, which suggest some treatments that may be helpful.
