What is it about?

Human activities are changing our planet. This situation is acutely evident in current problems like antibiotic resistance and climate change, interlinked challenges that also exemplify our central role in planetary health.

Why is it important?

We are facing important challenges at planetary scales that must be understood and addressed holistically. Human activities that have been instrumental in change are also generating threats to our planet and our health. An understanding of underlying causes and how these are connected can aid in unraveling potential solutions.

Perspectives

There is still much that remains to be understood regarding the role of microbes in our planet, which are instrumental to many processes. Microbes connect ecosystems and organisms and are key to unlocking future solutions. A deeper understanding of the role of microbes across boundaries will surely help us tackle some of the problems associated with two current global issues, antimicrobial resistance and climate change.
