What is it about?
Hey, have you ever heard of fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)? It’s an encryption scheme that allows computations to be performed directly on ciphertexts. Amazing, right? However, FHE is currently about 1,000 times slower than plaintext computation. But don’t worry—our paper reviews existing accelerators for FHE, which could significantly reduce this performance gap.

Why is it important?
In the recent decade, we have seen an explosive growth of fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) accelerators, and expect an increasingly more active development of FHE accelerators in the near future. However, we lack a comprehensive and systematic study to shed light on the status quo of existing FHE accelerators, which could inspire the future design and implementation of FHE accelerators.
