What is it about?
Data centers are a big contributor to the global carbon footprint. However, due to the high costs of running experiments on data centers, it is difficult to optimize their carbon emissions. In this paper, we propose Footprinter, a simulation tool that uses simulation to determine the carbon footprint of a data center.

Why is it important?
Climate change is a significant social challenge today, affecting various aspects of our daily lives. Data centers are already a large contributor of the global footprint, and with the rise of large artificial intelligence models, this is not going to decrease soon. It is thus important that tools are developed that support data centers minimizing their carbon emissions. FootPrinter is one such tool, providing data centers insight into their carbon emission.
