What is it about?
We need more community-level storage to make the power system more resilient and reliable and cost-effective. but it is not easy because there is no business model to help the cause. Also, the battery operator/owner does not know how much battery is needed. We try to address these issues with a game-theoretic approach

Why is it important?
Electricity is expensive, and major generators are coal and gas power plants in Australia. Adding to this the issues of resiliency and reliability are becoming more pronounced with climate change. In this work, we compared two business models for a community battery operator to make a profit while making electricity cheaper for consumers within a local electricity market
Perspectives
It was great interdisciplinary research with a great team of academics and industry experts.

While operating the community-level battery, we also considered the behavior of the local consumers on how they react to the price changes. Therefore, we utilized game theoretic concept to ensure the consumers' comfort is intact and keep their payment to the minimum. The model was tested with real data of consumers' energy consumption as well as current retail prices and network charges in New South Wales, Australia. The results showed that the battery operator could receive almost twice the investment at the end of battery lifetime.
