What is it about?

More and more academic courses adopt a project-based evaluation of the students’ knowledge and skills. This enables students to gather development and management experiences like those present in industry. When the project to be developed is proposed by a company, students become enthusiastic to address an actual problem in a context of a real project. From the organizational point of view, an industrial project-based course introduces several issues. In this paper, we share our experience concerning organizational aspects to be addressed before the beginning of the course, during the course, and after the end of the course.

Why is it important?

Our message for the community is that organizing industrial project-based courses may be easier than one can think. There are several key aspects to be considered, i.e., the appropriate company identification and the suitable project description, the synchronization between the company and the course from various points of view, the project assessment. However, they can be addressed successfully by taking inspiration from the guidelines presented in this paper.
