What is it about?

Unix CLI is an unvoidable topic in Computing Science education. Skills in this domain are a prerequisite to many jobs in the CS industry and academics, but are also of use in other domains. With this work, we propose a new web app to help students acquire skills on the Unix Command Line Interface, providing hands on exploring shell commands. The app is free to use. Students can track the progress of their practical knowledge and instructors can follow the results of students registered to exercise sessions they organize.

Why is it important?

To our knowledge, this is currently the only free app that concentrates on learning the shell, where instructors can enter their exercises and students get almost immediate and detailed feedback on their answers.

Perspectives

We hope instructors will take advantage of the tool, create new exercises, and offer their students shell training sessions. We hope students will grow in skills by doing the proposed hands on, and require for more!
