What is it about?

Head-mounted augmented reality (AR) displays allow for the seamless integration of virtual visualisation with contextual tangible references, such as physical (tangible) globes. We present use cases of enhanced tangible globe visualisation in augmented reality for creating engaging and effective data analysis.

Why is it important?

Our work is, to our knowledge, the first attempt to explore the design space and congregate a wide range of use cases of data visualisation in augmented reality with tangible globes. The presented use cases demonstrate what is possible with tangible globe + AR for data visualisation. We expect that our exploration will stimulate further exploration into this uncharted domain.

Perspectives

Envisioning what is possible with globes + AR technologies and bringing ideas into reality have been a valuable experience. We hope use cases we presented in our paper can inspire visualisation designers and promote immersive analytics to general public.
