What is it about?

Cities are becoming smarter by implementing computational solutions that enhance the quality of life for all residents. However, integrating these systems can be difficult due to their heterogeneity and isolated designs. To achieve interoperability, the System-of-system concept can be used. Blockchain technology can help fill these gaps and serve as a trustworthy decentralized controller based on a consensus mechanism among network participants.

Why is it important?

I am sharing an early draft of my doctoral research proposal which explores the integration of Blockchain technology and Systems-of-Systems concepts to enable secure interoperability between Smart Cities systems.

Perspectives

In my opinion, the utilization of Blockchain technology can aid in achieving interoperability and mitigating concerns relating to the dependability of data and Smart Contract functions. Additionally, it enables the establishment of a decentralized infrastructure that can be trusted, thanks to consensus mechanisms and an immutable chain of distributed blocks.
