What is it about?

Video summaries provide an important support for surgery! 1) Uses: videos are used for self-improvement, education, discussing cases, scientific research, patient communication and as legal resources. 2) Process: video summarization follows a process hindered by the loss of knowledge that originates during recording. 3) Coordination: surgeons develop ad-hoc coordination strategies which involve using the video itself for coordinating how to summarize it (e.g., leaving text embedded on a partial video summary, before sending it to the resident for further summarization)

Why is it important?

Video summaries have an immense importance in surgery, and current technological tools do not give the support surgeons need to do them fast and well.

Perspectives

We open new research avenues that can lead to better technology. We hope in the future surgeons can summarize the videos of their surgeries very quickly.
