What is it about?

When large groups of people think of ideas, they might end up thinking of the same things. To resolve this, we show people example ideas to help them think of new ideas. The ideas we show to people are diverse, which in turn leads to our total collection of ideas being diverse. To make the system more scalable we use computers to automatically select and show diverse examples to people.

Why is it important?

This paper helps people to generate non repetitive, diverse ideas automatically using computers.

Perspectives

We ran several user studies and compared multiple metrics of diversity to evaluate this study. A lot of work was involved, and it was interesting to see the benefits of our Directed Diversity method across multiple evaluations.
