What is it about?

In this work we proposed command selection interaction techniques for desktop environments, based on a combination of a keyboard with a smartphone. We evaluated our techniques in four user studies and showed that it is more performant than the mouse.

Why is it important?

Compared to the traditional pointing techniques with the mouse, KeyTch is faster, and saves screen real estate. We were the first to design such interaction techniques, while the market started seeing laptop with similar setups (replacing trackpads with tactile displays)

Perspectives

I think it is important to evaluate and update our techniques with more complex menu systems on the tactile display. It is also interesting to explore the memorization of commands aspect of it
