What is it about?

The standard User Experience design method takes 5 steps. But in a pandemic project with short deadlines and changing requirements, we describe how using just these three ( Empathy, Prototyping and communication and Testing) got us through.

Why is it important?

We were in a situation where the system was mission critical, and would help to save lives if executed properly. This case study shows how some steps in user experience design can be sacrificed under extreme circumstances and how to make up for the missing elements in order to maximize the quality of the system.

Perspectives

I hope this article helps user experience researchers and designers to cope when they are called upon to support extreme events where so many systems are disrupted at once. My authors and I want to share this as the role of UX grows and we are called on to urgently develop life-preserving systems.
