What is it about?

A novel academic digital library search interface was designed to support searching across multiple sessions, and using multiple different device types (mobile device, desktop computer). Search results found in the earlier search sessions can be saved for use in later search session. A visual overview of past search sessions can make it easier for a searcher to reacquaint themselves with what they have previously done. As a "demo" paper, we present the key features of the interface and explain how it can be used to search anytime, anywhere.

Why is it important?

While searching on a mobile device is convenient, being able to resume the same search when returning to a desktop computer can be difficult. If we are able to better support cross-session and cross-device search, we enable searchers to make effective use of their time when all they have available is their mobile device, and allow them to easily resume their search at a later time.

Perspectives

The first author of this work is a Master's student. While this paper was presented as a demo paper, we are in the process of preparing a follow up paper that provides empirical evidence of the value of the approach.
