How to design such that users can understand what their connecte devices are doing more easily

What is it about?

Connected devices are often embedded and collect data or act hidden from the users direct sight. Often, the only way to understand what the system does or has done, is looking into log-files, which are barely readable and not made for laymen. For a longer time, we worked closely with users of smart home technology to see what they would want to know from their system.
