What is it about?

The purpose of this paper is the investigation of the difference between measurements of electrical fast transient (EFT/B) and the voltage waveform proposed by the IEC 61000-4-4 Standard. Using a burst generator, a digital oscilloscope and a 50 Ohm Burst verification attenuator, a series of measurements were performed and EFT/B voltage waveforms were recorded. The equation of the IEC 61000-4-4 Standard for the EFT/B voltage was then modified in order to achieve the highest R-squared value. Treating the average waveform as a benchmark, a genetic algorithm (GA) was applied to the modified equation in order to achieve its best fitting to the data set. Five different error norms were used for the GA applications. The best GA application result of each error norm was saved and compared to the others. Thus, a very satisfactory modification proposed by the Standard equation is presented, which is closer to the real EFT/B voltage waveform.
