Why is it important?
Cross-cultural design practices are an essential component of the global game education experience. This article emphasizes the need for standardized frameworks, design heuristics that validate the process, and instructional material for effective contribution to cross-cultural design in games pedagogy, research, and practice.
Perspectives
This article presented pedagogical insights and student perceptions of working on cross-cultural design approaches in game development through project work and in-class peer critique sessions. The insights and feedback show potential for developing instructional material, industry-led modules, and additional classroom activities to foster cross-cultural practices and games user research frameworks in games education. Case studies, shared experiences, and evaluation frameworks are necessary to develop crosscultural game design competencies in pedagogy, research, and practice across the globe.
