What is it about?

Since June 2021, more than $ 3.2 billion has been stolen from cross-chain bridges, which are interoperability mechanisms that support the transfer of assets between blockchains. This paper uncovers new anomalies in cross-chain bridges, not only originating from security vulnerabilities but also serious usability issues.

Why is it important?

Since June 2021, approximately $ 3.2 billion has been stolen from cross-chain bridges. Additionally, beyond the research on these attacks, there is a lack of research that uncovers other anomalies beyond the already known attacks.

Perspectives

I believe the most important contribution of this paper is the identification of numerous anomalies that relate not only to security issues but also to usability problems. Moreover, the use of real-world data and the manual analysis of each identified anomaly give the paper strong practical relevance and a clear real-world dimension.
