What is it about?
When Anna, an Olympic athlete, falls behind in the race, she pushes herself harder with the goal of winning the competition and no longer disappointing others. But by constantly pushing her limits, she exhausts herself. She must then face the wave of judgment caused by her withdrawal.

Why is it important?
All the 3D visual effects for Courage were created using Houdini, with lighting and rendering done in Maya (Arnold), then composited in Nuke. The main challenge was integrating these effects into a highly graphic, 2D-inspired art direction. The character's outlines intentionally break up their 3D form, and we used brushstroke-shaped cards, particularly for the eyes and hand flashes, the parallax effect, and the particles. The lines in the white sequence, handled using the Vellum system, add a softness to Anna’s mindset, while the sketch effect reflects her conflicting mental state. Finally, the transition between blue and red was achieved by blending several effect passes, and the breaks, treated with an organic tearing system, express both the character’s physical and mental pain.
