What is it about?
Gig workers (such as Uber drivers and Deliveroo riders) generate lots of data through their work -- where and when orders are placed, which providers are chosen, how far the trips go, how much the orders cost, and many others. This data is rarely visible or accessible for the workers themselves. What could empower gig workers to access and make better use of their data to optimise their work? And what is the role of academic researchers in this?

Why is it important?
Currently, platforms are in control of data generated by gig workers. However, as previous research shows, platform and worker interests are not always aligned, and gig worker rights are less protected by employment laws than traditional roles. It is important that gig workers should have ownership and control of their data so that it can be used for their benefit, not to their detriment.
