What is it about?

This chapter provides a comprehensive picture of innovation patterns in small firms. It starts by presenting the typical innovation activities in small firms and the innovative outcomes created by them. Thereafter, the chapter explores how the innovation activities diversify in small firms. Based on the diversity of these activities, four innovation performer profiles are identified. This will be followed by monitoring how a firm shifts from a low innovation performer towards a high performer. Finally, the firm-related and business environment-related characteristics of four innovation performer profiles are presented.
