What is it about?
There is an assumption amongst nurses, midwives and allied health professionals who are pursuing a clinical academic career, that it is easier for medical doctors who want to pursue this pathway. This article compares the experiences of the two groups. There are demographic differences; medics tend to be younger and combine their clinical and academic training whereas the other group are generally in their clinical post for some time before embarking on the clinical academic pathway. Both groups faced similar obstacles but also experienced benefits including increased job satisfaction and improvements to patient care.
