What is it about?
The Global PaedSurg Research Collaboration are a group of children's surgical care providers from across the globe. We have come together to undertake a study entitled 'Management and Outcomes of Gastrointestinal Congenital Anomalies in Low-, Middle- and High-Income Countries: Protocol for a Multi-Centre, International, Prospective Cohort Study'. We aim to define, for the first time, the mortality and complication rates from a selection of common congenital anomalies (also known as birth defects) across the world, comparing outcomes in different income settings. This is vital to highlight the huge disparities in outcome that currently exist and to identify factors that affect outcomes in order to improve care. Results will be used to advocate for much needed enhanced neonatal and paediatric surgical care where needed most to ensure that the healthcare provision for all children born with birth defects is optimised globally.
