What is it about?
This article reports the results of applying the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (AEP) in Ukraine. It used the Delphi procedure to adapt the AEP to Ukraine specifics. The proposed Ukrainian version of AEP (AEP-UA) is a reliable and valid tool for assessment of the appropriateness of hospitalizations for Ukraine’s hospitals. The results of our study point to a high volume of inappropriate hospitalizations and their unjustified duration in Ukraine: 37.6% (95% ?? 32.8 to 42.3) in total were inappropriate hospital admissions. In our sample, over half of the total bed days spent by patients in hospitals were classified as inappropriate or longer than necessary (57.4%).
