What is it about?

In this paper we describe an intervention for cancer survivors that is supposed to help them in taking up health behaviors. The intervention is currently being delivered online. It comprises of 4 main parts: promoting an active lifestyle, eating healthily, mental health and weight loss. Participants will receive recommendations on what module of the intervention they might want to visit. This research is important as we need to find sustainable ways to help cancer survivors living a healthy life.

Why is it important?

The number of cancer survivors is growing steadily. Cancer survivors do not display very good health behaviors. Their diets are not healthful, their activity levels are low, and they often face mental problems. Motivating cancer survivors to live healthier lives is important as these behaviors are associated with many positive health outcomes. For example, the chances of cancer coming back are reduced and general health and wellbeing is improved. A potentially successful way to improve such behaviors is through the internet.

Perspectives

The online approach of this intervention is advantageous as it is possible to reach many people for little costs. Cancer survivors are usually older and an easy to navigate online intervention that was specifically developed for this population should help to reach the health targets. This should lead them to have a good quality of life.
