What is it about?

This paper presents the strategy (protocol) for estimating the effect of heart failure on hospitalisation rate and mortality of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Systematic reviews are a type of study that gather previous research on a specific topic and then discuss the results of the previous research comprehensively. Meta-analyses are a type of statistical method that allow for the estimation of an effect using information gathered from previous research publications.

Why is it important?

The publication of review protocols allows for transparent research. Other researchers are able to replicate the study and to check the final work against what the protocol said would be done.
