What is it about?
Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a rare disorder. In order to reveal the present status of LEMS in detail, the nationwide survey was conducted in Japan. The investigation was conducted during the year of 2017.

Why is it important?
This type of nationwide survey was first conducted in Japan and revealed that the prevalence of this disorder was similar to that reported in Europe and the U.S. However, this work showed the immunological difference between primary autoimmune form of LEMS and paraneoplastic LEMS. The study also pointed out shortage of appropriate treatment using 3,4-diaminopyridine and immunosuppressants in Japan.
