What is it about?

A 54 year old woman presented with nausea and vomit, unintentional weight loss, constipation, low blood pressure, hypercalcaemia, a long history of smoking. Several different diseases can induce these clinical signs and symptoms but ... what is the correct diagnosis in this case?

Why is it important?

To make a correct diagnosis is crucial, however sometimes it can be challenging: different diseases can have very similar clinical presentations.

Perspectives

This woman was affected with severe hyperthyroidism (excessive production of thyroid hormones) due to Graves' disease (an autoimmune disease inducing a persistent over-function of the thyroid gland). This was an unusual clinical presentation, however we have been able to make the correct diagnosis and successfully treat the patient
